Hi, SISters and BROthers!

How are you?

Today’s Flashback of this week’s Happy Hour dedicated to the super diva of music and the big screen, will tell you a bit little more about the year our beloved birthday girl, Jennifer Lopez, was born: the year of 1969!

So get comfortable in there where you are, because our time travel is about to begin and it will take you to 49 years ago.

  • World

Early in the year 1969, Richard Nixon took office as President of the United States of America.

Already in the month of July, the great astronaut Neil Armstrong became the first man to step on the moon, as he was the commander of the Apollo 11 mission, the first mission to unship on the moon.

In August, the Woodstock Festival took place in the United States and it’s known until today as the biggest rock and roll festival of all time and has given rise to the rest.

It was in October of that year that the internet was born, because the first message was sent by ARPANET, precursor of the internet as we know it nowadays.

The International Labor Organization (ILO), was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1969.

  • Brazil

In March, the Brazilian Postal and Telegraph Company (ECT) was founded, a public company that replaced the Department of Posts and Telegraphs (DCT).

Already in October, Emílio Garrastazu Médici was elected as the 28th President of Brazil, without direct elections, and took office in the same month.

  • Movies & TV

It was in 1969 that the 41st Academy Awards – Oscars Ceremony took place, with the winners “Oliver!“, as best film, Barbra Streisand, as best actress for her performance in “Funny Girl“, Cliff Robertson, as best actor for his performance in “Charly“, and Carol Reed, as best director for his work in the movie “Oliver!“.

SIS’ Tip: Watch the movie “Funny Girl“, which won the Oscar for best actress for the performance of Barbra! It is a great classic of cinema and musicals. It’s worth it!

In September of 1969, the most watched television news on Brazilian TV, Jornal Nacional, of Rede Globo de Televisão, was released and already had several anchors, which the most beloved were Fátima Bernardes and William Bonner, and he presents the program until today.

The television already had major American TV shows, among them “Here’s Lucy“, “The Doris Day Show” and “Hawaii Five-0” (which has a great remake since 2010 and will debut the new season later this year).

  • Music

It was in the year 1969 that great musicians released new albums, beginning with B.B. King, James Brown and Ray Charles.

But I think the release that fills my heart with happiness is the album “Empty Sky” by the great British musician Elton John, which I really love, I go to all of his shows in Brazil and I have a very special affection for him for all the memory that his musics awakens in me. Besides, he’s such a sweetheart!

A band that was formed in 1969 was Supertramp, a progressive rock band that was very successful in the past decades, but has many songs played until today.

The Beatles released the best-selling album (from their career and, most likely, from history!), called “Abbey Road“. In addition, Paul McCartney recently posted on his social networks a video of him crossing the famous pedestrian strip of Abbey Road Street as a tribute to this album released in 1969 and to promote his new album that will be released later this year.

The Billboard Top 10 were:

  1. Sugar, Sugar” – Archies
  2. Aquarius (Let The Sunshine In)” – Fifth Dimension
  3. I Can’t Get Next to You” – Temptations
  4. Honky Tonk Women” – Rolling Stones
  5. Everyday People” – Sly and The Family Stone
  6. Dizzy” – Tommy Roe
  7. Hot Fun in the Summertime” – Sly and the Family Stone
  8. I’ll Never Fall in Love Again” – Tom Jones
  9. Build Me Up Buttercup” – Foundations
  10. Crimson and Clover” – Tommy James and The Shondells

  • Sports

In November 1969, Pelé, a world famous Brazilian player, scored his 1000th goal for Santos, a team from the coast of the state of São Paulo.

Phew…! Our Happy Hour birthday girl of the week, Jennifer Lopez, was born in a busy year, right?

That must be why she’s such an incredible person and can not stand still, having to launch some new work, whether it’s on radios, on the big screen, on the catwalks or in the perfumeries.

Speaking of new work, do not miss the next SISgraphy, because we’ll talk about JLo‘s most outstanding works, including her projects as a designer.
