Hello my darlings, guess who’s back?
YEP! That would be ME..ME and ME…skating across your screen…just the way I like it…
Really proud to say that this column premiere was a success!
Everybody’s now loving our little big huge Carrot Cake in a very classy and respectful way, isn’t that right, Icing on the Cake SISter?
Time for our happy dance…MOVE WITH ME ladies
Cause, we’re celebrating!!!!
But you’re still waiting for more interesting and tense subjects, right?
…and now…I don’t feel so good…no need to panic…
I’m ok…I’m fine…I’m great…It’s gonna be ok…
Ok…maybe not that ok…just having a little tiny bit breathing problem
This tiny panic resulted in that old, sweet, loving and devastating WRITE’S BLOCK. What will I write next? I promised a more light subject, didn’t I? I remember something like that..I could of been drunk. Hyperventalating here in Lallybroch! I really have no idea what could be a light subject within this fandom…I mean, SO MUCH BULLYING and so little fun…and we do love to talk about Outlander and all the Stranger Things, don’t we?
I guess Grey’s Anatomy’s and GOT’s fans like some drama too right, I mean, 2378 deaths in each season…they sure like to suffer. Hi-five guys!
On top of all that we have This is US…can you get enough tissues? Does CVS still have some to sell…OMG…Last night’s episode was so…
This SISter here had no ideas. NONE, ZERO, NADA.
Well, just happens that during my so called WRITE’S BLOCK INTERVENTION, I came across episode 3×01 (The Battle Joined) with the following scene:
Claire Randall, beautiful goddess and very pregnant, sitting like a lady listening to Harvard’s Dean (which I gave the nickname of Peter Pettigrew, just because I think he deserves a rat).
Rat’s face Pettigrew was doing fine, talking about politics with his apple-polishers, very happy, thinking he knows it all especially who the new president of the United States would be.
I didn’t check who actually won the election that year but I HOPE THAT RAT’S FACE PETTIGREW GOT IT FUC..I hope his predictions were wrong.
So, the talk was going smooth between the men till our big mouth favorite english sassenach, mamas girl, decided to do something SCANDALOUS called: OPINION. What an awful death to Mr.Rat Pettigrew! If he had heart problems he would of just died right there.
FOR MARY AND ROLAND’S SAKE…the woman has SPOKEN!
I need a moment of SILENCE.
“I read a column in the Globe…”
WHAT THE HELL? THIS WOMAN NOT ONLY GIVES HER OPINION BUT ALSO READS? THAT’S ABSURD! FRANK RANDALL, HOW COULD YOU? DID YOU ALLOW THIS? THAT’S NOT ACCEPTABLE! GET A GRIP ON YOUR WOMAN. SHE’S A DANGEROUS ONE. VERY DANGEROUS.
“The Medical School has been accepting women for 3 years now..”
OH RANDALL, YOUR WOMAM IS NUTS. WHAT AN IDEIA! WOMAN IN COLLEGE? PLEASE! WOMAN ARE NOT MADE FOR THAT, HON! YOU HAVE TO STAY AT HOME, TALKING CARE OF THE KIDS, BAKING CAKES (Carrot ones), POT ROAST, PUDINS…WOMAN CAN’T HOLD A SCALP, THAT ELEANOR ROSSEVELT’S IS JUST AS CRAZY.
Focus on THAT face. Look at this woman. In my mind she had already killed him, stabbed him, asfixiated him, ran him over, twice, and knocked him out with karate. ALL IN THAT LOOK. And, so, what does she do?
…and what do I have?
I HAVE MY SUBJECT!!!! I GOT IT!!! BYE BYE WRITE’S BLOCK!!!!
Thank you God (or Diana Gabaldon – Herself) for Claire Elizabeth Beauchamp Randall FRASERRRRR!!!!!
We’re on a roll here!!!!!
TODAY’S TOPIC: DREAMS
“WHAT??? Weren’t you talking about…” Shhush intern, I will explain. Bring my coffee this time, would you?
This scene that I described was used on The Season 3 promotion tour and Caitriona Mary, Diva Mor, Creamy, Queen of the World e the Whole fucking thing, Balfe (LET’S TAKE A MOMENT TO WORSHIP THIS WOMAN) gave the following statement before they aired the scene – in some cases, was after.
“I believe this was the moment that she (Claire) decided to go to medical school”
Claire was in a difficult position. About to become a mom with someone else’s baby, back to her old husband, in a period where society said to women who helped in the war, Thank you so much my dear for all your help, now you can go back home.
This would imply that she would have to dedicate herself exclusively to her house, her family, husband and kids. This would also imply that she had to leave behind all Independence she’d gained, and for the greatter good go back to being beautiful, dumb, and opinionless.
And she chose.
But she wanted more. And she went for it. It doesn’t matter what drove her to go after her dream. It could have been for the fact that she had lost the love of her life, or was trying to fulfill that hole in her soul, or just because being a housewife was never her goal in life, so Claire CHOSE to become a doctor in the 50’s, confronting everbody on the way, not only because she could do it, but because she WANTED to do it.
Nobody could take that from her. Helping others was her gift. She needed to be successful. She was always good at that. That was her thing. But you don’t always get to do what you dream to do right? Life doesn’t always work like that.
Do you have a dream? Yes, YOU!
What is it that you wanted to be? Is the person you are today the person you once were? Or did life, unfortunately, made you do a unexpected turn? Did society judge you in any way?
It’s very common to have people tell you what to do. They sometimes even show you how, but what people don’t get sometimes is that you don’t want to follow someone else’s step.
You want more, you want to walk your line, be yourself, find you and not be judged for it.
Did you ever stop to think how many wings were broken just because we don’t believe humans can fly? How many circles were proven squares, how many perfectly normal and healthy human beings became color blind because that’s how the world told them they should see?
I’m gonna tell you something about the world, it belongs to those who dare. Yes, those who dare. Those who, no matter what they’ve been told, they’ll go and do their thing anyway, those who are what they are no matter the cost.
Of course, this is not a piece of cake, or something you’re born with, and I know that swimming against an ocean is very hard and you do need a lot of willpower, A LOT. But, IT CAN BE DONE.
Failure. Have you heard of it? What’s your current relantionship with it? Yes, you need a relationship with failure because if you are ever gonna succeed, you will fail first. You are NOT perfect.
You will fail 1, 2 ,3, 30, 56, 1918327634 times. Every single one of those times, will give you the knowledge you’ll need for your next step, and so on.
With that said..here’s the thing:
Have you ever been told you could not do something or have you ever had the courage to be what you wanted to be? Was that confusing?
Ok. I’ll give examples – I love examples.
Have you heard of J.K. Rolling? No? Well, she was the first author to become a MILLIONAIRE with her books. What did she create? AH…some guy named Harry Potter. Now it’s easy to say she’s successful, but she was fired before. Why? For NOT HAVING A CREATIVE MIND.
Did you understand that she got FIRED FOR NOT HAVING AN IMAGINATION? Her books were rejected for a total of 8 publishers because they thought it wasn’t appropriate for young adults. She went through some hard times, but kept going. Well, I think she did well after the ninth Publisher..she is in fact very rich now.
But what happens when you try so many times and never succeed? ANOTHER EXAMPLE…BECAUSE I’M THAT KINDA GIRL.
Dwayne Johnson or The Rock, the Scorpion King guy – yes, I talk a lot about movies and actors! – recorded a vídeo recently saying how he loves Canada and it’s people.
He said his dream was to be a football player and he was damn good at it too! He definitely could of won a scholarship if he, days away from his graduation, didn’t break his knee.
That fracture was so bad that he could never be the player he once dreamed of. AND HE THANKED FOR THAT EVERYDAY. WHAT? WHY? YOU BREAK YOUR LEG, LOOSE YOUR DREAM AND STILL SAY THANKS? YOU NUTS BOY?
Very simple. Life sometimes puts you down. It has a thing called IMPREVISIBILITY, that puts you out of your way. If he hadn’t broken his knee, he wouldn’t go through pain, loss, grief, and he wouldn’t try to find another path again.
He wouldn’t have studied, he wouldn’t be an actor, he wouldn’t have met some people and he wouldn’t know Vancouver and called it his favorite city in the world. Circumstances changes us, but we can still fight, if we can ever find another dream worth fighting for.
When you look yourself in the mirror, do you have pride of the person you’ve become?
Even if you are not the person you once dreamed you’d be…still…DO YOU FEEL GOOD ABOUT WHO YOU ARE TODAY?
If not, what do you need to do, so you CAN FEEL GOOD about yourself again? How can you find courage again? Courage is not something exclusively of the brave, it’s of those who try, in spite of fear and for those who look ahead, in spite of the bad weather. All of this requires strength.
Let’s all be like Claire. She teaches us that obstacles do exist, but to be yourself and to respect that, brings more pleasure to life than to live as someone you’re not suppose to be.
Have pride of yourself, as a baker, a surgeon, a mail man, a vlogger, a cook, a baby-sitter, a nurse ..whatever. We only have this life and it should be a happy and very well lived one, right?
Think of that!
