Hello, my loves!

How are you?

Today’s Flashback will tell you a little bit about the year that our birthday boy of the week, Wagner Moura, was born: 1976.

Ready to travel back in time?

Curiosity: 1976 was a leap year (the one in which the month of February has 29 days) and it was the year our amazing CEO, Bianca, was born.

  • World

In March, the President of Argentina, Isabelita Perón, was deposed by a coup and it was the beginning of a dictatorship in the country.

On April 1st (April’s fool day, but this was no joke at all…), Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniac launched Apple Inc..

Also in April, Portugal created the 1976’s Constitution to restore Democracy in the country.

In November, Jimmy Carter was elected President of the United States with 50% of the votes.

It was in 1976 that the great English writer Agatha Christie died.

  • Brazil

Juscelino Kubitscheck and João Goulart died in 1976. Both were presidents of Brazil.

  • Cinema & TV

At the 1976 Academy Awards, Milos Forman‘s “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” won the Best Film, Best Achievement, Best Leading Actor and Best Leading Actress categories.

In January, there was a fire at Rede Globo that partially destroyed its headquarters in Rio de Janeiro.

Martin Scorsese‘s “Taxi Driver” received the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

Brazilian actors such as Malvino Salvador, Giovanna Antonelli, Vladimir Brichta, Luana Piovani and Rodrigo Lombardi were born.

International actors like Reese Witherspoon, Freddie Prinze Jr., Melissa Joan Hart and Colin Farrell were born too.

  • Music

In April, punk rock band Ramones released their first studio album.

In September, U2 was created in Dublin, Ireland.

ABBA released the most successful album of their career, Arrival.

  • Fashion

In 1976, in London (England), a group of young unemployed and students appeared: the punks.

This group tried to shock the others through their “threatening” and slightly colored looks: tight black trousers, leather jackets, tacks, chains, long-legged boots, and vivid, eye-catching details.

  • Sports

In the world of sports, it was in 1976 that the Olympic Games took place in Montreal, Canada.

During this competition, the great Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci, who was only 14 years old at the time, reached the maximum score (10). No one ever got that note in the entire history of gymnastics.

That year was born the great American football player, Peyton Manning.

So…did you like the year of 1976?

I really wanted to have a time machine and go back to 1976 and see all of this happening!
